February 04, 2012 : A Special CBI court in Delhi today dismissed Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy’s petition seeking to prosecute Home Minister P Chidambaram for his alleged involvement in the 2G spectrum case. Special CBI Judge OP Saini had allowed only Swamy to enter inside the court room and asked him to present himself later for the in-camera pronouncement of the judgment.

The Supreme Court had on Thursday refused to direct the CBI to investigate the alleged role of Chidambaram, leaving it to the special court trying the 2G spectrum case to make a decision within two weeks.

A Bench of justices GS Singhvi and AK Ganguly had also asked the lower court not to be influenced by its decision. The Special Judge, on January 21, had reserved its order for today.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni has welcomed the court decision. She said the justice had been delivered by the court on the allegations against Home Minister P Chidambaram, who was the then Finance minister. She said the stand of the Government and the Congress party had been vindicated.

Union Human Resource Development Minster Mr. Kapil Sibal has said that the Opposition should apologise for dragging Chidambaram’s name in the 2G case.

Speaking to reporters, Swamy said he would appeal against the court decision.
